A: Hey, Mike!
B: Yes, Jess?
A: I know that you’ve always wanted to become an ultrasound technician.
B: That’s right. Why do you ask?
A: Well, how do you become an ultrasound technician? After watching a documentary on TV on sonography, I became really interested in the profession.
B: For high school graduates like us, we have the option of taking an associate or bachelor degree. Associate degrees take two years but requires student to have completed pre-requisite courses before applying. Bachelor degrees are pretty straightforward – it’s a four year degree towards the diagnostic medical sonography track.
A: That’s pretty simple when you explain it like that. Are there a lot of schools in the US that offer sonography degrees?
B: More than two hundred schools have been accredited by CAAHEP that offer associate and bachelor degrees, even certificate programs as well! Certificate programs are shorter – they take a year to finish but are only open to people who have already have a medical degree or have had a career in a similar profession.
A: I see!
B: If you want to read more about it, you can read a few articles on ultrasoundtechniciancenter.org.
A: I will. Thank you!
