A: Hi David!
B: Hi Bruce!
A: It’s nice seeing you again. The last time we met up was during graduation.
B: You’re right! That was a few years ago.
A: How are you? I know you’re working as a diagnostic medical sonographer now.
B: I am. I’m doing well — both personally and career-wise. I’m very happy working as a sonographer in Oregon — although I do miss our little town every now and then.
A: That’s great. I have to ask – how much does an ultrasound tech make? My little sister is planning on taking diagnostic medical sonography next fall at the local college. I’m a little worried about how that’s going to turn out.
B: Don’t worry, Bruce! Diagnostic medical sonography is a pretty great career choice. The demand for sonographers is expected to increase in the next few years — and so will the salary! In Oregon, sonographers earn roughly $86,000 annually. That ranks third in the US in terms of annual salaries for sonographers.
A: Wow! I didn’t know that. Are there plenty of career opportunities as a sonographer?
B: There are. I’m currently a lead researcher for a local hospital — that means I’m part of the research or academe industry. Most people think that sonographers only work in the hospital but that isn’t quite true. You can try to read a few articles on ultrasoundtechniciancenter.org.
A: Will do! Thanks David.
B: You’re welcome.
