A: Good afternoon, Jessie. I’m surprised to see you this early. Your check-up isn’t until Friday.
B: Yes. It’s just that, well, I have a few questions.
A: About what?
B: About my sonogram. I’m not really familiar with the procedure and I have to admit, I’m a little nervous.
A: There’s no need to worry. Ultrasounds are very safe. Unlike x-rays and MRIs that use radiation, an ultrasound will only use sound waves.
B: Sound waves? Is that how an ultrasound machine works?
A: Yes. The machine has two major parts – the transducer and the monitor. The transducer is a hand-held device that emits sound waves that pass through your body and back. This sends signals back to the monitor which creates the images – all without invasive surgery.
B: That’s actually pretty cool. Thanks so much.
A: If you want to get familiar with the procedure a little more, read a few articles on ultrasoundtechniciancenter.org. It will help with your nerves.
B: Okay. Thanks for seeing
