B: Hello, Peter. How are you?
A: I’m doing great. You?
B: I’m fine. I’m actually headed over to class in 30 minutes. We have a guest speaker delivering a lecture today.
A: What class are you talking about?
B: Introduction to Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The head of the Radiology Department at the local hospital will be talking about what is means to be an ultrasound tech in 2015.
A: Oh! I’ve heard about that talk; my sister is also taking sonography and I think she’ll be attending too.
B: That’s great. Would you like to come too? It’s an open event at the college.
A: I don’t really know much about sonography though.
B: It’s pretty simple. Sonography is one of the most popular diagnostic procedures today; it’s safe and non-invasive, able to create images of structures inside the body without surgery. In fact, sonographers are one of the highest paid medical technician occupations in the United States today.
A: Really? How much to they earn annually compared to other professions?
B: Our speaker told us to read over the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and I found out that sonographers earn $68,390 annually – on average.
