Out of the hundreds of schools in New York that have diagnostic medical sonography, there are only a few CAAHEP-accredited ultrasound schools in NY. Learn all about CAAHEP-accreditation for sonography programs at the link below.

A: Hi Blaine!
B: Good afternoon, Lea.
A: Congratulations on your move to New York! I heard from Kurt that you were accepted into your college of choice.
B: Thank you! Yes, I was. I’ll be starting next fall at Long Island University.
A: What will you be taking?
B: I applied to a bachelor degree program in cardiac sonography. That will take four years to finish, so I’ll be travelling back and forth during breaks and holidays.
A: I see. Are there a lot of accredited ultrasound schools in NY?
B: There are quite a few — seven to be exact. However, schools don’t get accredited. Their programs do.
A: What do you mean?
B: CAAHEP doesn’t accredit schools, per se. They accredit the diagnostic medical sonography programs offered by those schools.
A: I didn’t know that!
B: While there are a lot of schools in New York that offer sonography training, not all of the programs have passed CAAHEP’s accrediting process. If you’re interested, you can visit ultrasoundtechniciancenter.org. I know you’re heading off to college soon as well and I think that website can help you decide on a program that you want.
A: I’ll be sure to visit the website later at home. Thank you!
B: No problem. See you around!
