A: That’s true. Did you know Mark shifted to the sonography program at Thomas Jefferson University?
B: Isn’t that all the way in Philadelphia?
A: It is. He’s gotten together with some friends and managed to find an affordable dorm near the school that would fit them all.
B: What made him want to take sonography? This is all news to me.
A: Remember when Uncle Josh went over to visit us a few months ago?
B: Yes, your father’s brother who’s a sonographer. Did he convince Mark to study sonography?
A: More like Mark was really inspired by the occupation. He kept talking about it for months on end, and I finally told him to just shift to a good accredited sonography program if he was really interested.
B: At least he’s in a program he likes now. I assume you did your research on sonographers in Philly?
A: Of course I did. You have no need to worry, mom. Employment is pretty amazing in Pennsylvania – they’re the fifth state with the most number of employed sonographers. In 2013, there were 2,600 sonographers working in the state. Though the annual salary is a little bit below the nationwide average, the great employment opportunities make up for it.
B: That’s true. It’s more important to have a job than to have none at all. And when you compare the annual salary of a sonographer to other medical tech jobs, Mark will still be better off. I want to do my own research of course; do you have any tips?
