Developing Technologies for Early Detection of Breast Cancer, A Public Workshop Summary

In November 1999, the Institute of Medication, in assessment with the Commission on Life Sciences, the Commission on Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Applications, and the Board on Science, Technology and Economic Policy released a one year research study on innovations for early detection of breast cancer. The committee was asked to examine innovations under advancement for early breast cancer detection, and to inspect the procedure of medical innovation development, adoption, and dissemination. The committee is gathering details on these topics for its report in a number of methods, consisting of 2 public workshops that generate outdoors know-how. The first workshop on “Developing Technologies for Early Breast Cancer Detection” was held in Washington DC in February2000 The material of the presentations at the workshop is summarized here. A 2nd workshop, which will concentrate on the procedure of technology advancement and adoption, will be held in Washington, DC on June 19-20 An official report on these subjects, consisting of conclusions and recommendations, will be prepared by the committee upon completion of the one-year study.
