In November 1999, the Institute of Medication, in assessment with the Commission on Life Sciences, the Commission on Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Applications, and the Board on Science, Innovation and Economic Policy introduced a one year study on technologies for early detection of breast cancer. The committee was asked to take a look at innovations under advancement for early breast cancer detection, and to scrutinize the procedure of medical innovation development, adoption, and dissemination. A 2nd workshop, which will focus on the process of innovation development and adoption, will be held in Washington, DC on June 19-20
