This is the first lesson in touch training for our 2 year old Inland Carpet Python, Castiana. Eventually we want her to shift into an exam table and hold in a rectilinear position while accepting touch for an exam, ultrasound, radiograph, injection, blood draw, or similar procedure. Step one is to get her to shift out and hold while we introduce touching followed by reinforcement. We’re doing this with our simulated veterinarian or technician behind semi-protected contact in case the snake is startled by then”touch” and turns around to strike.
