JOB SUMMARY
The Ultrasound Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist, carries out ultrasound treatments on ambulatory and medical facility clients as requested by a doctor or other licensed company for the medical diagnosis of illness and injury in accordance with established procedures.
NECESSARY FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Carries out high quality ultrasound procedures, according to test protocol, in a prompt manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging treatments by following recognized standards and procedures.
Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: recognize patient service requirements, guarantee appropriate exam is carried out on the appropriate patient, and develop rapport with clients and others.
Advises and communicates with patients and their household concerning the test to be performed and examines patient’s capability to tolerate examination.
Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into defined position and changing devices controls to set exposure factors.
Protects clients and staff members by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, procedures and methods.
Uses correct sterile strategies when establishing and performing intrusive multimodality treatments and preserves hand health requirements.
Maintains devices and work area to fulfill quality and tidiness requirements.
Functions with engineers and physicists to ensure ideal operational abilities of equipment.
Reports issues to management or suitable department. Assists in maintaining products stock.
Ensures individuals are safe to go into the department by evaluating them according to authorized policies and treatments.
Obtains, validates and preserves all appropriate documents such as requisition/chart, client history, pregnancy status and shielding preventative measures taken, consent kinds, policies and treatments, and so on
Maintains medical imaging records in proper system and according to department policies and requirements for analysis in a prompt manner.

Shows and preserves existing knowledge, continued education and abilities proper look after the following age groups (specific to department): newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult and geriatric.
Able to act as preceptor by providing quality training to brand-new staff member and on new services and initiatives.
Able to take call, if required.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION – Graduate of an Accredited Program
EXPERIENCE – Less than 1 Year of Experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION –
Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS is needed.
ARRT-BS Breast Sonography (ARRT-BS), ARRT-S Sonography (ARRT-S), Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK), Reg Diag Med Sono-Abdomen (AB) (RDMS-AB), Reg Diag Med Sono-Breast (BR) (RDMS-BR), Reg Diag Med Sono-OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS-OB), Registered Vascular Tech (RVT): Must be certified in one of following:
Qualified by the ARDMS-American Registry of Diagn Medical Sonographers (OB/GYN) or (AB) or (BR) or (MSK),
OR
Qualified by the ARRT-American Reg of Radiologic Tech ARRT (S) or (BS) or should have an RVT certificate. Licensed by the American Computer Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Vascular Technology (RVT) within one (1) year of position effective date required for staff members in departments that carry out vascular ultrasound exams.
